Summary: I love this vacuum!!!
Comment: I bought this vacuum because the other brand vacuum I had after just 1 year wouldn't suck anymore. It has tremendous sucking power and will suck up anything and it won't get clogged. It has the dirt warning light which is wonderful; half the time I think that the floor is clean but the vacuum always finds more dirt that I can't see. I have recommended it to everyone and everyone that has bought one just loves it. It is a bit loud but all vacuums that work are. I would never buy any vacuum that isn't made by Hoover. If you try this vacuum you will love it.

Summary: This vacuum really Sucks!
Comment: Just bought the Hoover U5453-900 WindTunnel Supreme Upright Vacuum Cleaner for my Aunt, whom has two indoor dogs. Although she vacuumed regularly with her old canister vacuum, it just wasn't picking up the hair. This vacuum definitely did the job! Just vacuuming her small living room filled up the HEPA rated 3M Filtrete bag. Thanks to the Embedded DirtFinder™ display, I was able to tell when the many years of dirt was sucked out of the carpet.

The 3M Filtrete bag feels like cloth and is well constructed. Hoover offers a cheaper Allergan bag, but it looks more like a paper bag and doesn't trap as much dust and dirt. I suffer from dust and pet allergies and yet was unaffected by the air discharged through the 3M Filtrete bag, definitely worth the extra money. I even removed the two sponge filters that come with the Hoover, because there is nothing that they can trap, since all of the dust and dirt stays in the 3M bag.

My aunt, whom is always skeptical, was amazed at how new her 20-year-old carpet looked. Although the vacuum seems sturdy enough, I can't vouch for its longevity, but at Amazon's price with discounts and free shipping, even if it only last's a year, I feel that I got my money's worth. I will definitely buy another one for my house, to replace my bagless Eureka Cyclone HEPA vacuum.

The attachments are a bit cheaply made. I removed them and the plastic compartment door to make the vacuum as light as possible for my aunt to use. The cord is extra long and would reach across a large area.

Summary: beware model differences
Comment: I bought the "Supreme" model in 1999. I did not want the self-propelled feature because it was a heavier unit that I would have to lug up and down the stairs... and besides, pushing a vacuum around just isn't all that hard (unless perhaps you have a deep shag carpet). I was surprised at the more negative reviews, but I see that they are the same for the Supreme and the Ultra. I think maybe that is where a lot of the disparity is arising. I LOVE this vacuum (the Supreme). The only reason I am considering a new purchase is to replace the shoddy (granted, cheap) Eureka that I bought for my office, which broke in 6 months (and I will now replace with my trusty old Hoover). I have never had to unclog a plugged hose... but I wonder if the Ultra model is the one w/the clogging problem, since it has a 20' hose (with more bends & such). I don't have a problem with the vacuum falling over when I am cleaning with the hose... but again - it doesn't have the extra long (and heavier?) hose. It's suction is great! The extension wands DO fall off very easily, the cord needs a clip at the top so you don't have to bend over and grab it off the floor every time you turn around... the bag-full indicator is probably as unreliable as people say - but I don't use it. Instead I just pop the door open and check. What people say about changing the bag I find true also. The bag is longer than the bag-area so you have to sort-of push and finesse the bag in while closing the compartment - this really could be designed better. The dirt-detection feature seems to work pretty well. I have one cat and one dog and 2 toddlers. The pets have short hair, so that helps. When I had long-haired animals I still had to brush them every couple of days because NO VACUUM I know of will handle large volumes of long pet hair. In spite of the small annoyances (extension tubes, power cord, bag changing) 5 years later I would (may) still buy this vacuum. I really wanted the extended hose for cleaning... but now I wonder if the complaints surrounding clogging and tipping are related to the longer hose. Anyone have some insight?

Summary: TAKE MY HUSBAND, BUT NOT MY HOOVER, P L E A S E!!
Comment: I've had my Hoover for almost a year & a half & STILL love it! In my 50+ years of housekeeping, I've had a number of various brands of vacuums, & NONE came close to my Hoover. It truly does get up close to edges & cleans so well, it's almost fun to use. My daughter-in-law borrowed it this past week to clean their new home they will be moving into soon. She couldn't believe how well it picked up EVERYTHING. Now she HAS TO HAVE ONE OF HER OWN!!

Summary: better than given credit for . . .
Comment: I know sometimes you can get a lemon but some of the reviews seem a little harsh. We have always used hoover vacuums and they have always been great. This one is no exception. It has great attatchments, is easy to use and does a great job of picking up dirt and debri. My older son who is always trying to take things apart managed to take off some screws that we could not find. We emailed to company and within a few days had the replacement parts at no cost. We have been very happy and have no complaints at all about this vacuum.
