Summary: Unlike my refrigerator... Comment: After much research on my part (as most of you have done), I purchased the model EL6888A from Lowes over 6 years ago & have never experienced an unfixable problem with the vacuum...can't say the same for a mid-range Frigidaire fridge that expired at less than 4 years old. The compressor went and of course, I hadn't purchased the extended warranty...repairman said it wasn't worth fixing after shipping, labor costs, etc.; that they're made to replace, not repair.
Back to the vacuum...even with an active Samoyed (and a recently deceased Collie/Shepherd mix), the Oxygen does a wonderful job of keeping area rugs and (lots of) hardwood floors clean and the HEPA filter system plus sealed container/bag eliminate practically all particle escape and allergens...the suction is still amazing...tools work fine also...I add a natural potpourri mix to the bag and the fragrance released is fabulous. A few negatives are, as some stated, tripping over the cord occassionally, and repositioning the canister. Several times the light indicator for full bag flicked on after the bag had already overflowed a bit into the hose, so I do keep an eye on that, but other than replacing the belt due to a helpful husband catching the fringe from an afghan by mistake, this vacuum continues to serve me very well.

Summary: Electrolux EL 6988D Oxygen Vacuum Cleaner Comment: I bought this vacuum cleaner about a month ago, and I absolutely love it. We use it every day, and it just keeps working like the little trooper it is. The handle is well placed for carrying it when vacuuming stairs, and even tho it is small and lightweight, it has plenty of power. The light canister is easy to maneuver, and the machine has excellent suction. If there is anything I would change, it would be the way the dusting attachment snaps into the handle. It isn't always the most secure and falls out occasionally. I would definitely recommend this vacuum to a prospective buyer.

Summary: I love it! Comment: I love it--I never had a vacuum cleaner that worked like this! It's not noisy- I didn't believe how different my furniture looked----it was actually really vacuumed!!!It moves so nice and it's light--I don't mind carrying it upstairs. Everything is on the bar, except the carpet part, and it is all so easy.-Alice

Summary: Got up the pet hair! Comment: My last Electrolux finally died after 13 years, so read all the consumer report issues and selected this model about 2 months ago.
Strengths:
Excellent at removing pet hair from carpets - could not be more pleased with the performance on carpets and pet fur (2 cats + a golden retriever/collie mix = lots of fur!)
Cord and hose lengths are longer than my old one - not sure why other reviewers complained; seem just as long as my Mom's Hoover cord.
Nice compact size - much easier to fit in the closet and carry up stairs than old model
Price is less than my old model too
Areas needing improvement:
Bag is small, might not be a problem if you don't have pets
Bag can be annoying to remove - there is a plastic slide toggle that tends to not move out of the way enuf to allow the bag to slide off easily
For some reason, they designed the power head/tube assembly to swivel in one direction. Don't know why, as this makes it awkward to manuever, and it only twists to the right - would rather it remain straight, or, turn in both directions.
My husband complains that the regular head doesn't work on hard floors. I find it works OK (tho not as good as old model). If you use the hard floors attachement it is fine - we have been used to doing all the floors without having to change heads and so have to make a 2nd trip to the closet for the attachement.
Overall, I'd recommend this - would buy again.
